Paid inclusion
Some search engines and directories offer paid inclusion as a way
to get your web pages included quickly into their database of web
pages. Although your web pages may get indexed by these same search
engines and also included in these directories, paying for the service
guarantees (with one exception) that your web pages get included quickly
into the index of the search engine and directories.
Using paid inclusion you can get your web pages indexed as quickly
as 48 hours in some cases while using only natural search spidering
may take as long as a few months. The inclusion fee, however, does
not guarantee a high ranking. Please
see pay-per-click management as a way of guaranteeing quick inclusion
and a high ranking for your web pages.
Paying the fee to Yahoo does not guarantee inclusion in the directory
but instead guarantees that an editor will review your web page and
make a timely decision whether or not to include it.
Benefits of paid inclusion
Using paid inclusion has significant benefits. Clearly with paid inclusion
you get your web pages into the search engine or directory quickly.
Using paid inclusion also gets your web pages spidered more frequently.
If you make frequent changes to some of your web pages the changes
will be reflected in the search engine and directory's index more
quickly. If you modify your web page to get a higher ranking, you
can see the results of the modification quickly. If you have dynamic
web pages, using paid inclusion offers the opportunity of having your
pages listed while you may not otherwise have that opportunity. Read
about XML feeds, another way of having dynamic pages listed. Finally
having your web pages listed in a directory can increase your ranking
in other search engines.
Which (if any) paid inclusion search engines and directories to use?
There are two major search engines and directories
that we recommend that offer a paid inclusion program. They are
Teoma,
and Yahoo. As an additional benefit, search results from these companies
are reported by other search engines, so getting your web pages
into these three companies allow your pages to be viewed by searchers
using other search engines and directories. Please see the relationship
chart.
The costs commonly vary between $30 to $49 for a single URL and $192
to $290 for 10 URLs. You can submit more URLs and the prices increase
accordingly. Yahoo has an additional cost-per-click of either 15 or
30 cents depending on in which of their two categories your web pages
are in.
The decision which paid inclusion companies to use and how many web
pages to submit are budgetary decisions. We can help you prioritize
the value of paid inclusion as part of your online marketing mix.
